What is a Music Video - Miss Miller

A music video is a short form with music implemented into it, there are many purposes as to why artists create music videos to accompany their songs however the main reason is to gain a wider viewership and maximize income and profits. The music video I will be analysing for conventions is from Justin Bieber, a very popular and mainstream artist whom has a huge fan base. The style of the music video is performance however there are some narrative aspects within. 

There are several conventions within my chosen music video, such as the implementation of a love interest and a relationship between the artist and a female. The use of this convention both appeals to the audience as it is relatable thus creating a better viewer experience and also the visuals link with the lyrics that are talking about relationships. The character positioning also backs this up as the male and female are very close and are portrayed to be in a relationship as they are embracing eachother. 

Another convention within this music video is the use of a dance routine and dancers with an easy dance routine. The use of this dance routine encourages dancers to participate and learn the moves thus improving the viewer quality of the video resultantly increasing views. The use of a dance routine is very popular within music videos especially mainstream ones thus a big artist such as Justin Bieber who's fanbase is predominantly young would entertain a dance routine within his music video. The use of a mid shot, and a panning shot back this up as the viewer can clearly see the artist and the background dancers doing the routine. 

Another convention within this music video is the use of varied lighting within the video, the use of this lighting links with the tempo of the music and is also visually pleasing and also creates a variation of design which keeps the audience entertained. The use of varied lighting and editing is again very conventional as it makes the music video more aesthetically pleasing and through the use of mise-en-scene this video sticks to the mainstream features that make most videos popular.
